ENGINE SYSTEM CONTROLS

Client: Metropolitan municipal wastewater treatment plant
Engine Service: Dual-fuel generators

ESi personnel completed an engine controls project for a major US municipality, updating an unreliable system that controlled four engine-generators. The plant had experienced several unplanned engine shutdowns caused by poor functioning of the control system. Because the controls were centralized, a single failure would cause all engines at the facility to shutdown, or fail to start.

The client requested decentralization to allow each engine to function independently. Upon evaluation, it was determined that the addition of a small PLC would eliminate many points of failure in the system.

In addition to refining the engine control design, ESi engineers worked closely with plant personnel to inspect and tune all of the on-engine mechanical components. Training was provided to ensure continued engine reliability.
